Golden Rooster Awards Screenings at the Chinese American Film Festival Brings the Pinnacle of Chinese Filmmaking to Hollywood

LAPost/Los Angeles, Ca (November 21, 2024) – In celebration of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the U.S., the Chinese Filmmakers Association (CFA) and the organizing committee of the Chinese American Film Festival (CAFF) co-hosted the “Golden Rooster Awards Screenings” at the 20th Chinese American Film Festival. The Golden Rooster Screenings Showcase highlighted films nominated for the 37th Golden Rooster Awards, and the event was hosted with the intent to enhance the international impact of the Golden Rooster Award and create meaningful connections between Chinese and American films and their makers.

CAFF presented “Little Golden Angel Awards” to long-time supports of the festival

The Golden Rooster Awards Showcase was hosted recently at the Fowler Museum within the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The event was attended by Chinese American Film Festival Chairman James Su, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles Taiyu Wang, U.S. Representative Judy Chu, Former State Assemblymen and Board Member of the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board Mike Eng, Co-Chairman of the Chinese American Film Festival and Oscar-winner Andrew Morgan, and CAFF Committee Member and Chairman of the Foreign Task Force of the Writers Guild of America West Committee Bob Underwood, among other guests from the Chinese and U.S. film industry.

 Chairman Su comments, “As the Chinese American Film Festival marks its 20th anniversary, creating a promotional activity in the world’s movie city, Hollywood, where we join hands with the China Film Association becomes all the more significant. We hope to continue to collaborate with CFA in the future and use our shared passion for film and TV to bridge between China and the United States and deepen friendships between the Chinese and American people.”

  Taiyu Wang, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles echoed that the Golden Rooster Awards brings the Chinese and American people closer together. According to Wang, “the Chinese American Film Festival has introduced many of the latest and most influential films for American audiences to view and enjoy.”

Preceding Wang’s welcoming remarks, Deputy Secretary General of the China Film Association Cao Jun introduced the Golden Rooster Awards to the audience and invited international filmmakers to participate in the Golden Rooster Awards and Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival.

Honorable American politicians U.S. Representative Judy Chu and California State Assemblyman Mike Fong shared words of support at the showcase. According to Chu, her hope is that films will be able to enhance the understanding between the two countries and strengthen cultural exchanges and civil friendship. Chu also encourages both Chinese and American filmmakers to continue to create more stellar film and television works for the global audience.

 Golden Rooster Awards Showcase was followed up with six screenings of films that were nominated for the 37th Golden Rooster Awards at the Regal Edwards Alhambra Renaissance Theater between November 10 to 12. The films screened included “Pegasus 2,” “Endless Journey,” “G for Gap,” “Gone with the Boat,” “Snow Leapord,” and “The Yangtze River.”

Six films were screened in theaters in the San Gabriel Valley in the days preceding the showcase.

The Golden Rooster Angel Awards Showcase is a branded event of the Chinese Filmmakers Association for Foreign Exchange, which aims to use film as a medium to show the charm of Chinese culture and art to the world and deepen the exchange and mutual understanding between Chinese and foreign civilizations. While similar events have been hosted in Italy, Greece, Belarus and other countries over the years, this is the first time they have hosted an outreach event in the States, signifying their hopes of improving relations between the two nations. As the seal of approval for quality filmmaking in mainland China, the organizing committee of the Chinese American Film Festival welcomed the Golden Rooster Awards to Hollywood to share a piece of Chinese cinematic history with American audiences.
