Solis Organizes Resource Fair for East Los Angeles Residents Impacted by Eaton Fire and Power Outages
Over 2,500 families received critical supplies including food boxes, emergency kits, diapers, masks, water, pet food and access to on-site resources.
East Los Angeles, CA (January 12th, 2025) — Los Angeles County Supervisor and Chair Pro Tem Hilda L. Solis held the East Los Angeles Resource Fair in direct response to East Los Angeles residents impacted by the Eaton Fire and power outages. Over 2,500 families received critical supplies including food boxes, emergency kits, diapers, masks, water, and pet food. Families also had access to power bank stations, on-site County, State and Federal resources including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the County Department of Health Services’ mobile clinic.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors declared a state of emergency after unprecedented high winds caused major fires, power outages, and structural damages, impacting residents Countywide. In East Los Angeles, many residents experienced power outages and poor air quality caused by high winds and proximity to ongoing fires.
As a direct response to her constituents’ needs, Chair Pro Tem Solis organized a resource fair for impacted residents in East Los Angeles, mobilizing resources from County Departments and community partners to provide immediate care, support, and relief for families. Over 3,000 cases of water, 2,000 boxes of food, 25,000 masks, and 3,000 pounds of pet food were gathered in addition to other emergency supplies for this resource fair.
“The devastation we are seeing in Los Angeles County is unprecedented. As Supervisor for the First District, my priority is in making sure those in our most vulnerable communities, including those here in East LA who are navigating this crisis, have the resources they need to recover,” said Chair Pro Tem Solis. “We know the road ahead will be difficult and take time. I want to reassure residents that we are here to support them.”
The East Los Angeles Resource Fair held by Chair Pro Tem Solis brought together various community partners, County Departments and even federal support, including: Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), California Highway Patrol (CHP), Southern California air Quality Management District (SCAQMD); Southern California Edison, Metro, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Red Cross, Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE), Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, CultivaLA, Alma Family Services, Valley Vista, Michaelson Foundation, Los Angeles County Departments of: Health Services, Mental Health, Public Health, Public Works, Aging and Disabilities, Economic Opportunity, Library, Public Social Services, Consumer and Business Affairs’ Office of Immigration, Animal Care and Control, and Internal Services. Additional supplies were provided by the following organizations: Baby2Baby, Jeff Seymour Family Center, U.S. Women’s Chinese Organization, Northgate, the Pomona Wellness Center. Several volunteers attended to lend a helping hand, including: the Los Angeles Conservation Corps, Rio Hondo College Corps, Los Angeles County Asian American Employee Association, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, South Bay Center for Counseling (SBCC), I Heart East LA, and veterans from Marine Corps League Detachment 1347, and American Legion Post 804.
