Solis Facilitates Safe Haven for Residents and Pets Displaced by Wildfires

Pomona Fairplex Remains Active as Residents Look Towards Recovery

Pomona, CA (January 16, 2025) — As many Angelenos were affected by the devastating wildfires that swept through our area, Chair Pro Tem and County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis issued the following statement:

“As we begin to move towards recovery, I remind everyone that the Pomona Fairplex, which opened as an evacuation site last week, is active and can serve as an important asset in our residents’ road to recovery.

The Pomona Fairplex remains the only evacuation site in the entire Los Angeles County with the capacity to host families, small animals, and large animals on site. In fact, we’ve received over 50 horses displaced by the Palisades and Eaton fires, a pig, and dogs, and are equipped for more. We’ve also had families with little ones needing the extra space and privacy to begin their healing journey.

This site is equipped with essentials like food, showers, pet supplies, in addition to on-site support from FEMA, Department of Mental Health, Department of Public Social Services, Red Cross, and additional services to connect residents to long term recovery. These resources are available in more than one language and the site is ADA accessible for residents needing additional assistance.

To those affected by the ongoing wildfires, I want to assure you the County is working tirelessly to support our community’s recovery efforts, and I encourage anyone needing additional support to connect to the Pomona Fairplex for resources and recovery. Many of our other evacuation sites are impacted by the amount of Angelenos displaced, and for larger families, families with pets, or those who require medical assistance, we can help provide a safe place to decompress, assess next steps, and connect to resources.”

The Pomona Fairplex is located at 1101 W Mckinley Ave, Pomona, CA 91768, Gate 3, and remains close to I-10 Freeway and Foothill bus stops. Activated at the direction of Chair Pro Tem Solis, and in collaboration with the American Red Cross, the Fairplex is ready to provide quick and critical support as affected residents look towards recovery.
