LA County Parks Presents Black History Month Celebrations across 60 locations, Free Family-Friendly events
Free family-fun events, cultural and history experiences, food tastings and more
LOS ANGELES (January 31, 2025) — The County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation (LA County Parks) invites all residents to celebrate Black History Month this February with events hosted at 60 park locations. These celebrations, February 13 through February 28, will honor the achievements, contributions, and legacy of Black culture and heritage.
“Black History Month honors the triumphs, contributions and resilience of African Americans throughout U.S. history. Too often, this history is minimized, marginalized, or erased, which is why we feel these LA County celebrations of Black history are also an important opportunity to uplift and highlight the Black community in LA County,” said Norma E. García-González, Director of Los Angeles County Parks. “Our parks celebrations will feature family-friendly activities that honor Black history. These joyful and informative events help underscore that Black history is American history.”
Our SPOT (a free after-school program for teens ages 12-18 that provides a fun, safe, and supportive place where teens can check in daily, Monday through Friday year round) will highlight Black History Month with events such as documentary viewing parties, soul cooking classes, inspirational quote chalk art, and much more. For the first time, senior centers will also participate in Black History Month with programming for seniors that includes food tastings, engaging art workshops, book readings, and jazz days.
With family-fun events and cultural experiences such as music, storytelling, art exhibits, workshops, and community activities, all visitors from all diverse regions and backgrounds in LA County are invited to visit and enjoy these free Black History Month programs at participating LA County Parks.
Visit www.parks.lacounty.gov/bhm for details on the locations, times and dates of Black History Month programs. All events are free, and no registration is necessary.
