State Treasurer Fiona Ma Opens LA Abilities Expo to Empower People with Disabilities

SACRAMENTO, CA – California State Treasurer Fiona Ma today opened the LA Abilities Expo, an event dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities through innovations and resources. The Expo is being held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from March 7-9.

In her opening remarks, Treasurer Ma emphasized the importance of accessibility and empowerment for all Californians. “The Abilities Expo is not just an event; it’s a community coming together to break barriers and showcase possibilities,” said Treasurer Ma. She also highlighted CalABLE, a program administered by the California State Treasurer’s Office, and its role in providing financial independence through specially designed savings accounts that do not impact public assistance benefits.

The Expo features over 180 exhibitors and nearly 10,000 attendees, making it the largest event of its kind in California. During her visit, Treasurer Ma performed the ceremonial ribbon cutting and was escorted on a tour of the Expo.

As part of the event, a special promotion is being offered to encourage new CalABLE account registrations. The first 100 people to use the promo code “EXPO2025” at the Expo will receive $50 in their new CalABLE accounts. This initiative is designed to kickstart the savings of new account holders, providing an immediate financial boost to assist with disability-related expenses.

The Expo is open to the public and continues to offer workshops, presentations, and live demonstrations that showcase the latest in disability resources.
