Solis Celebrates Los Angeles County Day at the Fair
Pomona, Calif. — Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis joined community members today at the Fairplex in Pomona to celebrate Los Angeles County Day at the Los Angeles County Fair.
“Los Angeles County Day at the Fair is a cherished tradition that brings together families from every corner of our County to celebrate our shared history, culture, and community,” said Chair Pro Tem Solis. “I’m grateful to the Fairplex for being such a dedicated partner in making this day so special and for serving as a long-standing hub for cultural exchange, education, and entertainment. The Fairplex continues to be a cornerstone of community pride, not only during the County Fair but throughout the year. As we celebrate the arts and our diverse heritage today, we also look ahead with great excitement to 2028, when the Fairplex will serve as a host venue for cricket in the Olympic Games. This milestone will further solidify its role as a global stage for sports, culture, and unity.”
The day’s festivities featured vibrant performances that highlighted the theme of this year’s fair, Art Unleashed. Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) delivered a moving performance that showcased the power of music education to uplift and inspire. The dA Center for the Arts brought tradition to life with a lively showing by the dA Mini Mariachis.
Following the morning reception, Chair Pro Tem Solis invited students from Bassett High School to join her, Thummer the Pig, the fair’s beloved mascot, local officials, and community members in a lively 1-mile parade.
This year’s fair spotlights the power of arts and culture, with special collaborations featuring the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), The Music Center, and the LA Opera. In recognition of the fair’s cultural impact, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, through a motion introduced by Chair Pro Tem Solis, officially proclaimed May 2–26 as Los Angeles County Fair Days and designated May 4 as Los Angeles County Day at the Fair.
The Los Angeles County Fair runs through May 26, offering visitors an opportunity to explore exhibits, entertainment, and more. County residents enjoyed discounted admission on Los Angeles County Day at the Fair.
