Solis Responds to State Receivership of LA County Juvenile Halls
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem Hilda L. Solis issued the following statement in response to California Attorney General Rob Bonta’s request to place the Los Angeles County Probation Department under state receivership:
“I support the Attorney General’s decision to pursue receivership over Los Angeles County’s juvenile halls, an important and necessary step to safeguard the well-being of the youth in our custody. This action reflects a continued commitment to accountability and reform as we work to address deep-rooted issues and help drive progress forward.
Late last year, I co-led the emergency proclamation for our juvenile system—an urgent measure aimed at confronting the decades-long, systemic problems within our Probation Department, as well as the challenges from Los Padrinos. I stand by that decision and know that the County is committed to working collaboratively with the Attorney General to ensure the safety of our youth. We must face this crisis with urgency, transparency, and a shared commitment to doing better for those entrusted to our care.”
