LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis issued the following statement today after participating in a congressional hearing in Los Angeles titled “Due Process for All: Exposing Trump’s Mass Deportation Machine” called by Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee, Congressman Robert Garcia.
“Today’s hearing made clear the human cost of the Trump administration’s inhumane immigration policies. Across Los Angeles County, communities are living in fear, facing civil rights violations, and enduring attacks on basic human dignity. Families, including many U.S. citizens, have had their lives upended by unlawful arrests, racial profiling, and aggressive raids.
Los Angeles County is taking action. I have authored more than 15 Board motions in response to these raids, and through my advocacy, we launched the Small Business Resiliency Fund and invested millions in immigrant legal services, emergency rent relief, and food support. We have also challenged unconstitutional detentions in court, supported litigation against the deployment of the National Guard, and joined cases defending constitutional protections and Temporary Protected Status.
The Trump administration must be held accountable. To that end, I will continue standing up to these abuses and fighting to protect due process for our communities.”
