Superior Court of Los Angeles County Launches New Unified Court Access Portal for Case Information, Improving Ease of Use

The New Court Access Portal Pilot Combines Several Case Information Portals, Empowering Court Users and Attorneys to Access Case Information Seamlessly 
The Superior Court of Los Angeles County today announced the pilot launch of a unified Court Access Portal. This new centralized case information portal provides the public, court users, and attorneys with a single, user-friendly destination to access publicly available case information online across several litigation types. The portal can be accessed at CAP.lacourt.ca.gov.

“The pilot launch of the Court’s new Court Access Portal marks the next step in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County’s ongoing commitment to a more accessible and user-friendly court experience — one in which case information is simple to find, fast to retrieve, and available around the clock,” Presiding Judge Sergio C. Tapia II said. “With a simple case number, members of the public, court users, and attorneys can now access all available case information from one centralized place, whether from the courthouse, the office, or home.”

The portal consolidates case information, document access, and calendar information across civil, criminal, family law, juvenile justice, juvenile dependency, mental health, and probate litigation types into one intuitive interface, eliminating the need to navigate multiple systems. Access to information is guided by role-based security to ensure users have appropriate access to information and documents.

Key features include:

  • The consolidation of basic case information, future hearing dates, and filing history into one central location.
  • A new user-centric, modern and responsive design for desktop and mobile platforms, prioritizing ease of use and simplicity for the user across a broad range of platforms and devices.
  • A single log-in page for the public, court users and attorneys, with features and tools automatically tailored to their user type, whether they are a member of the public or a licensed attorney.
The Court Access Portal pilot is expected to undergo several months of testing and can be accessed on the Court’s website. During this initial pilot period, all existing legacy case information channels on the Court’s website will remain available for use. Any changes to the status of the Court’s legacy information channels will be communicated in advance by the Court.

“Modernizing how the public interacts with our court online remains a top priority,” Executive Officer/Clerk of Court David W. Slayton said. “The launch of the Court Access Portal pilot is a significant step toward a more efficient, transparent, and user-centered experience for court users looking for important case information. More importantly, the public launch of the Court Access Portal provides the technical groundwork for further improvements to the Court’s other information channels, which we look forward to announcing at a future date.”

Access for Court Users and Attorneys

The new Court Access Portal serves as a unified destination for both the public and attorneys, with features and tools tailored to each user type upon sign-in. Attorneys may preview the portal by watching this video, or alternatively, may continue to use the legacy Attorney Portal while the pilot is underway.
The Court Access Portal also establishes the foundation for the future consolidation of the Court’s remaining case information portals, including the Media Access Portal and the Justice Partner Portal, which will be centralized into the Court Access Portal at a later date. Updates regarding both will be communicated as they become available.
