Solis Advances New Regional Splash Pad at Whittier Narrows

SAN GABRIEL VALLEY, Calif. — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors today approved a motion authored by Board Chair and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis to develop a new regional splash pad at Whittier Narrows Recreation Area.

The project will bring the largest splash pad to a County-operated park. It will expand recreational opportunities for children and families across the San Gabriel Valley. The facility will also provide a safe place for children to cool off and play while helping discourage swimming in the unsupervised waters of nearby Legg Lake.

The motion allocates $549,532.83 in Proposition A Excess Funds available to the First Supervisorial District for the project. The $5.5 million project is also supported by $4 million from the Proposition 68 Per Capita Program and $950,467.17 in First District Measure A County Priority Project funds.

This project builds on my work to strengthen public spaces throughout the San Gabriel Valley and make sure families have more opportunities to gather, play and spend time together. I’m proud to help bring this long-awaited improvement to Whittier Narrows.”
