Solis Raises Concerns Over Federal Immigration Activity at East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station

EAST LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Los Angeles County Board Chair and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis today issued the following statement in response to reports of federal immigration agents operating in the parking lot of the East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station:

“Reports of federal immigration agents operating in the parking lot of the East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station, adjacent to the East Los Angeles Civic Center, raise serious concerns, particularly because County policy prohibits its property from being used as a staging area for immigration enforcement. As co-author of the Board of Supervisors’ ICE Free Zones motion, I helped establish these protections. I appreciate County departments posting signage to reinforce the policy and have asked County Counsel to ensure it is fully implemented and enforced.

Across Los Angeles County, families are living in fear as aggressive immigration raids, racial profiling and unlawful arrests threaten civil rights and basic human dignity. Many of those affected are U.S. citizens. I am also deeply concerned that this escalation in enforcement is intended to intimidate eligible voters and suppress voter participation. I urge Angelenos to remain vigilant, document encounters when it is safe to do so, and report suspected immigration enforcement activity to local rapid response networks, including the Los Angeles Rapid Response Network at (888) 624-4752.

Since the raids began, I have worked to connect immigrant families with legal services, emergency assistance and other critical resources. Our efforts include launching the Small Business Resiliency Fund and investing millions of dollars in immigrant legal services, emergency rental assistance and food support. We have also challenged unconstitutional detentions in court, supported litigation opposing the deployment of the National Guard, and joined legal efforts to defend constitutional rights and Temporary Protected Status.

I will continue to press for full enforcement of the County’s protections and use every available tool to defend residents’ rights and hold the line against unlawful federal actions.”
