GOLF PROGRAMS – LA County Parks is launching the new LA County Parks Youth Golf Program, a year-round initiative designed to introduce youth ages 11–14 that have had little to no exposure to the game of golf and create new pathways into a sport that many young people may never have considered accessible to them. The Youth Golf Program is designed with a particular focus on reaching youth from underserved communities and communities that have historically been underrepresented in golf. Through targeted outreach, affordable programming and access to LA County’s public golf system, the initiative seeks to remove barriers that can make golf feel inaccessible and build a more diverse generation of young golfers.
The program started with Drop Zone Golf, the first of three progressive programs that make up the new Youth Golf Program, on Sunday, October 25. Drop Zone will offer FREE, welcoming golf instruction at five LA County golf courses, providing youth with little to no previous golf experience an opportunity to pick up a club, learn the fundamentals and discover the game in an encouraging group environment. This weekly drop-in program introduces participants to the basics of putting, chipping and the full swing in a fun, low-pressure group setting. While the program can also help young golfers reinforce their skills, it is specifically designed to welcome youth who are new to the game.
Locations will start on a rolling basis. Once a location has opened its first Drop Zone class, it will continue once per week through March 2027. Locations and start dates include:
- Whittier Narrows Golf Course – Start Date 10/25/26
- El Cariso Golf Course – Start Date 12/5/26
