The 22nd annual U.S.-China Film Festival and Television Festival will open Nov. 10 in Los Angeles, bringing together filmmakers, industry executives and cultural organizations from China and the United States for a series of screenings, industry forums, project presentations and awards events.

Held under the theme “A Bridge of Screens, A World of Dreams,” this year’s festival will run through Nov. 30, with programming designed to promote cross-cultural exchange and explore opportunities for collaboration between the two countries’ film and television industries.

The festival has received more than 500 submissions from China and the United States across multiple formats, including feature films, documentaries, opera films, television dramas, web series, variety shows, animation and micro-dramas, according to the organizing committee.

Su Yantao, chairman of the U.S.-China Film Festival and Television Festival and chairman of Eagle Dragon Media Inc., said the event has sought to build cultural connections through screen storytelling over its 22-year history.

The festival’s stated objectives include helping second- and third-generation Chinese Americans maintain connections to their cultural heritage, introducing Chinese audiences to American culture through Hollywood productions, and encouraging greater understanding among different ethnic communities.

The 2026 edition also coincides with the United States’ 250th anniversary, a milestone the organizers cited as an opportunity to reflect on the role of storytelling in fostering cultural understanding.

More than 500 productions, 200 development projects

Alongside its film and television programming, the festival will continue its industry development initiatives, including the fourth annual U.S.-China Film Festival Project Market, organized in partnership with Shanghai Film Group and Legendary Entertainment.

The project market received 200 submissions this year, according to the organizers. A five-member final judging panel will select the top three projects for awards at the opening ceremony.

The panel includes Su; Wang Jun, chairman of Shanghai Film Group; Andre Morgan, co-chairman of the festival; Jay Ashenfelter, vice president of film creative development at Legendary Entertainment; and Bob Underwood, chairman of the International Committee of the Writers Guild of America West.

The initiative is intended to support emerging filmmakers and encourage the development of projects with potential for U.S.-China co-production.

Industry forums, online marketplace and screenings

The festival’s principal events will take place at several Los Angeles venues and through online platforms.

The opening ceremony and Golden Angel Awards presentation are scheduled for Nov. 10 at the Writers Guild Theater. The event is expected to bring together hundreds of guests from the film and television industries in China and the United States, with the annual Golden Angel Awards recognizing selected productions and industry talent.

On Nov. 11, the festival will host an industry forum and film presentation event at TCL Chinese Theatre. Discussions will address topics including the intersection of filmmaking and artificial intelligence, as well as emerging talent, new opportunities and changing pathways in the U.S.-China entertainment industries.

An online film market will run Nov. 12-19, connecting more than 100 film and television organizations and providing a platform for industry participants to explore potential partnerships.

From Nov. 14-30, selected festival entries will be screened or streamed at venues and on designated platforms in Los Angeles and other locations across the United States. The organizers also plan touring screenings in cooperation with universities and film organizations.

Hollywood studios and Chinese film groups participate

The organizing committee said major U.S. entertainment companies, including Disney, Sony, Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal, Legendary, Lionsgate and IMAX, had sent congratulatory messages and submitted productions for festival consideration.

Chinese organizations participating in the festival include China Film Group, Huaxia Film Distribution, Shanghai Film Group and China Central Newsreel and Documentary Film Studio.

The committee also reported receiving video greetings from nearly 100 directors and actors in recognition of the festival’s 22nd anniversary.

The festival’s opening ceremony will feature musical performances by Taiwanese singer Xiong Tianping and Chinese-language singer-songwriter Marina Yangyang. Eric HZ, a Chinese-language pop singer and Berklee College of Music-trained songwriter, is scheduled to perform his original song “Encounter,” dedicated to the festival’s 22-year history.

Corporate and cultural organizations provide support

China Eastern Airlines is serving as the festival’s designated airline. Other corporate supporters include Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (USA), Air China, Ve Wong Corporation, Huizhong Financial Group, Meimeihui and West Coast Life Insurance.

Participating business and cultural organizations include the China General Chamber of Commerce–Los Angeles, the Chongqing General Chamber of Commerce in the United States, the Federation of Chinese Associations in the United States, the Sino-American Arts and Culture Association, the Chinese American Drama Alliance, the Shanghai Association of Southern California, Merano Cultural Entertainment, North American Lu Opera Workshop and Hyper Relation.
