Trump says tariffs on China ‘working far better’ than anticipated
President Donald Trump said in a series of tweets on Saturday that his moves to implement steep tariffs on import goods from China is working and ‘our market is stronger than ever’, while China’s has dropped 27 per cent.
Trump defended his controversial trade policy saying that China’s market has dipped over the last four months and they are beginning to talk to the US about trade.
‘Tariffs are working far better than anyone ever anticipated. China market has dropped 27% in last 4months, and they are talking to us. Our market is stronger than ever, and will go up dramatically when these horrible Trade Deals are successfully renegotiated. America First,’ Trump tweeted.

In a second tweet, he added: ‘Tariffs have had a tremendous positive impact on our Steel Industry. Plants are opening all over the U.S., Steelworkers are working again, and big dollars are flowing into our Treasury. Other countries use Tariffs against, but when we use them, foolish people scream!’
Trump went on to call his critics ‘fools’, declaring that the tariffs will the United States ‘much richer’.
‘We are using them to negotiate fair trade deals and, if countries are still unwilling to negotiate, they will pay us vast sums of money in the form of Tariffs. We win either way,’ he said.

He also said China’s market is doing poorly against the US and we must remain strong.
‘China, which is for the first time doing poorly against us, is spending a fortune on ads and P.R. trying to convince and scare our politicians to fight me on Tariffs- because they are really hurting their economy. Likewise other countries. We are Winning, but must be strong!’
On Friday, China said it was going to impose another round of tariff’s on $60billion of US products if Trump followed through with his plan.
‘The implementation date … will be subject to the actions of the US, and China reserves the right to continue to introduce other countermeasures,’ the Chinese State Council, a government body, said in a statement. ‘Any unilateral threat or blackmail will only lead to intensification of conflicts and damage to the interests of all parties.’
Trump imposed the first set of tariffs, or tax on imported Chinese goods, to punish the country for intellectual property theft that he says has caused the U.S. economic damage. Some of the first products hit were imported steel and aluminum.
