Manhattan and Redondo Beach March elections

The stage has been set for the upcoming March 5 municipal elections in Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach.

The race for two seats for Manhattan Beach City Council has a fairly crowded field with seven candidates. Councilmembers Amy Howorth and David Lesser have termed out.

Two of the March candidates, Mark Burton and Wayne Powell, are former councilmembers. Powell was timed out in 2017 and Burton lost a reelection bid last year. The rest are newcomers to the city council race with the exception of Joseph Ungoco, who ran in 2017.

In Redondo Beach, there is a challenger for each incumbent in Districts 3 and 5 as well as a challenger for the typically unopposed city treasurer spot.

The deadline to file nomination paperwork concluded Monday, Dec. 10 with the following candidates slated to be on the ballot come 2019.
