Incoming 8th President Simon Shao
Shao Wen, the eighth president of the Chinese American Association, said that he is very grateful to Chinese community leaders and friends who supported and trusted him in the eighth democratic election. Because of everyone’s support, he is confident to take the responsibility.
He said that he will unite with the local Chinese leaders, watch and help each other, and contribute to the construction and development of the overseas Chinese community.
Simon Shao described C.A.F. five goals during his term in office in his speech, “First, tell Chinese story well, spread Chinese culture, build the bridge between U.S. and China relation, and be a friendly ambassador for the two countries. “
“Secondly, we would like to continue building a harmonious society, with sincerity, unity and inclusiveness, we will ensure C.A.F will be the model for other overseas Chinese organizations;”
“Third, while the passing of the torch, we will continue to welcome new associations and entrepreneurs as well as all new immigrants to join the C.A.F. “
“Forth, the C.A.F. will integrate into the mainstream, actively participating in all local, state and federal politics, pushing for more rights for the Chinese population in California; “
“Finally, change the current safty situation within the Chinese community. We must form Neighborhood Watches, reporting suspicious activities to the police. We cannot continue to turn a blind eye if it does not involve us. Safety is a whole community effort.”
After the congratulations, Deputy consul-general Dai Shuangming specially introduced 3 hopes to local Chinese communities. He first pointed out that overseas Chinese are the foundation of the community. The size of the overseas Chinese group is not based on their own opinions. It is to see how many overseas Chinese trust and participate in the association. The association should not forget the initial heart when it was established, take the initiative to serve the overseas Chinese, solve problems for the overseas Chinese, and gather more overseas Chinese.
The second is to actively participate in local community affairs, do practical things for the local community, and promote the Sino-US friendship. The overseas Chinese community is a local association. It is necessary to establish a foothold. The reputation of the association is not to see how big the name of the association is, how loud it is, but whether it is a Chinese overseas Chinese community and whether it can represent the Chinese community. It is necessary to strengthen communication with local government departments and other ethnic groups, integrate and give back to the local society, establish an open, positive and positive image of the overseas Chinese community, inherit and display the charm of Chinese excellent culture, and become a folk messenger of Sino-US friendly exchanges.
The third hope put forward by Dai Shuangming is to actively advocate the Chinese community leaders to work hard for the development and growth of the association. Chinese community leaders play a very important role in the development of associations. Chinese community leaders must rely on their own words and deeds to see whether they are universally recognized by overseas Chinese and the community. Chinese community leaders should not forget the purpose of the association, and should be willing to contribute and upright. have the courage to take responsibility, properly handle differences, promote harmony, spread positive energy, and work hard to standardize the operation of the community, need a tolerant and forward-minded mind.
According to Joey Yu, Chief Supervisor of ACF, “14 years ago, our founder Mr. John Cheng established the association. Over the years the association expanded greatly and became one of the largest associations in California. Our mission is to serve the Chinese American communities and help the new immigrants to establish ground in this country.”
“The 7th term has come to an end. Under President Sher Li, we have accomplished numerous impossibles to becoming possibles. Under her leadership we have contributed and organized many meaningful events for the communities.”
“We have organized several bilingual political seminars, to educate and encourage people to vote during the elections as we are no longer just a donor but also a voter.”
“Speaking of vote, a historical event has happened to the Chinese American Federation, for the first time in CAF history we had a democratic election to elect the next President, Director General and Chief Supervisor. We have more than 80 association representatives showed up for the ballot and voted for the next CAF officials. We have demonstrated the democracy with the democratic election and have set an example for others.”
“As a result, we have elected president Simon Shao. A man with vision, with a big heart, who has been a member of CAF since establishment. I know Simon Shao for almost 20 years. He’s a man with character and integrity. To my fellow CAF members, as Chinese American Population continue to grow in the Southland, we need to standby our new president Simon Shao. Under his leadership, he will lead us to the next level. Under his leadership he will take us to the next stage. Together and united we can accomplish our mission. Together and united we can achieve our goal. Together and united we can make a difference.”
