Comerica Bank Makes Dreams Come True During Inaugural Prom Dress Drive in Kalamazoo

Largest bank employer in Michigan partners with The Cinderella Project of Kalamazoo to provide free prom dresses and accessories to students in need

KALAMAZOO, Mich., February 28, 202 – Comerica Bank is extending an already successful and popular event from metro Detroit to West Michigan for the very first time – during the inaugural Prom Dress Drive in Kalamazoo from Friday, March 6 through Friday, March 20. Three Comerica banking centers throughout the Kalamazoo area will collect new or gently used prom dresses, as well as accessories such as jewelry, shoes, purses and wraps.

Comerica will provide the donated dresses and accessories to The Cinderella Project of Kalamazoo, a nonprofit which coordinates a one-day, annual event providing free prom dress and accessories to high schoolers in need.

“The Cinderella Project of Kalamazoo is so incredibly grateful to Comerica Bank for coming in this year and donating prom dresses to teenagers in need,” said Adrienne Wissner founder of The Cinderella Project of Kalamazoo. “Without partners like Comerica, we wouldn’t be able to collect and donate dresses for hundreds of high schoolers in the Kalamazoo area – and provide all of them the opportunity to attend their prom, regardless of personal or financial hardships.”

Comerica Bank’s Prom Dress Drive started in 2017 in metro Detroit – and over the past three years the organization has donated more than 4,500 dresses to Hope Closet.

“For nearly 15 years, The Cinderella Project of Kalamazoo has provided a much-needed service to the community, and we proudly support their passionate efforts to positively impact West Michigan youth as they help create memorable experiences,” said Debra VanHevele, senior vice president and regional retail director for Comerica Bank. “The prom represents such a special moment in a teen’s life, but unfortunately, many do not have the resources available to attend for a variety of reasons. We want to continue changing that by supporting the dedicated efforts of nonprofits, like The Cinderella Project, so more teens have the opportunity to live out their prom dreams.”

Now in its 14th year, The Cinderella Project of Kalamazoo holds an annual boutique at the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan to provide free prom dresses and accessories to local high school teens in need. This year’s event takes place for local high school students on March 27.

From March 6 through March 20, the public can drop-off and donate any new or gently-used prom dress or accessory at the following Comerica Bank locations:
