DACC Reunites Lost Dog from San Francisco with its Owner

Jackson, a Miniature Australian Shepherd was stolen from his home in San Francisco last December. The family searched for him for several months to no avail and had given up hope. But recently, this family received some springtime cheer from the County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control.

Yesterday, April 20, 2019, Jackson was brought into the Palmdale Animal Care Center as a stray.  Luckily, a routine scan revealed that the dog had been microchipped.  The microchip contained traceable identification via a microchip registry.  Fortunately, the Talermo family had kept this information up to date with current contact information. Immediately we called and Ms. Talermo could not believe we had really found their missing pet, Jackson.  In fact, she thought she was receiving a prank call. To reassure her, we sent her a picture of Jackson.  She was overjoyed to know her dreams had come true. She told us she had been using several media outlets to bring him home. She had even created the website Bring Jackson Home in an effort to locate him.

The family was surprised to learn their missing family member had made it all the way to Southern California, but very happy to know that he was safe and unharmed. Fortunately, Ms. Talermo has friends that live locally in the Los Angeles area. She contacted her friends who rushed over to our Palmdale animal care center to retrieve him and then immediately drove Jackson to meet his owner. This morning Ms. Talermo and her dog Jackson were reunited at 4 a.m. Please see the link below to view the video of the reunion.

Beautiful Reunion

We hope this helps to reinforce the importance of microchipping your pet and keeping the registry information up to date, says DACC Director Marcia Mayeda, I am delighted to know we could be a part of this happy reunion.

This afternoon, Ms. Talermo sent a photo of herself and Jackson and told us “it was an incredible experience! Everyone was so kind and empathetic towards the situation. I wasn’t able to be there to pick him up, but my friends were raving about how sweet everyone was.”
