Rep. Cisneros Encourages AAPI Community Census Participation in Census Bureau’s 2020 Census Asian Week of Action
FULLERTON, CA – This week, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) joined the U.S. Census Bureau during its 2020 Census Asian Week of Action to encourage the AAPI Community to participate in the census. It can be filled out by mail, phone, or online at https://2020census.gov/ and in 13 different languages, including English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Tagalog, and Vietnamese. The Census Bureau will also provide additional materials for the 59 non-English languages supported by the 2020 Census.
“We have a little bit more than a month left till we reach the census deadline. While the 39th District has a higher self-response rate than the state, I know we can do better. It’s especially important for our AAPI, Latino, and Black communities to participate in the Census, because they’ve been historically undercounted,” said Rep. Cisneros. “I’m proud to join the U.S. Census Bureau in its 2020 Census Asian Week of Action and encouraging the AAPI community to fill out the census. Every person’s participation will affect our community for the next 10 years.”
As of August 25th, the 39th’s District self-response rate is 75.9 percent, nine points higher than the state’s self-response rate (66.7 percent). However, several communities in the 39th with a larger AAPI population are below the district and state’s average:
- City of Industry/Rowland Heights = 36.9%
- Between Hacienda Heights and Rowland Heights = 65.7%
- Rowland Heights = 57.9%
- West La Habra Heights = 60.5%
- Placentia = 53.2%
- South Fullerton = 61.6%
