Governor Newsom Appoints Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control Senior Veterinarian, Maria Solacito DVM, to the California Veterinary Medical Board
Governor Newsom’s office today announced the appointment of Dr. Maria Solacito to the California Veterinary Medical Board.
“We are so pleased that Dr. Solacito has been selected by Governor Newsom to join the California Veterinary Medical Board,” said Marcia Mayeda, Director. “Dr. Solacito is an internationally recognized expert in veterinary medicine as it relates to medical care in animal shelters. Having a veterinarian that specializes in shelter medicine ensures our State’s shelter animals’ health needs are considered.”
Dr. Solacito joined the County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control in 2008 as a Veterinarian, she has been serving as Senior Veterinarian since 2013. “I am deeply honored and humbled to accept this responsibility to help in the regulation of veterinary medicine practice in the State of California and ensure that our consumers and their animals are protected” she stated “I am hoping to bring better understanding of animal sheltering to the Board as it is an industry that impacts a significant animal population”.
Dr. Solacito is a member of the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association, Southern California Filipino Veterinary Medical Association, Association for Animal Welfare Advancement, California Animal Welfare Association and the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association. She is a frequent guest lecturer at national and international animal welfare conferences. Dr. Solacito earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of the Philippines, College of Veterinary Medicine. |
