Supervisor Hahn Nominates the Late Former Councilman Tom LaBonge and Former Councilwoman Roz Wyman to LA Memorial Coliseum Court of Honor

Los Angeles, CA—Today, Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn proposed adding two plaques to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Court of Honor.  One plaque will be for her friend, the late former City Councilman Tom LaBonge. The other will be for former City Councilwoman Roz Wyman who, along with Hahn’s father Supervisor Kenny Hahn, brought the Dodgers to Los Angeles.

Supervisor Hahn nominated both LaBonge and Wyman during today’s meeting of the LA Memorial Coliseum Commission and both were approved unanimously.

“I hope these plaques will be fitting tributes to their legacies,” said Supervisor Janice Hahn. “Tom loved this city and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. This plaque will be a way for us to show how much we loved him back. Roz, along with my father, brought the Dodgers to LA and they played their first two seasons and the 1959 World Series in the Coliseum. That is LA history that needs to be recognized.”

Tom LaBonge, aka “Mr. Los Angeles,” was a longtime supporter of the LA Memorial Coliseum. He attended Coliseum Commission meetings long after he retired from the City Council and raised funds for other Court of Honor honorees. He even worked as a NFL sideline photographer at a number of games at the Coliseum.

On top of Roz Wyman’s ties to the Coliseum through the Dodgers, she was the City Council’s first representative on the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission. She was the first woman to serve on the LA City Council and was the youngest person ever elected to the City Council at the age of 22.
