LA County Library to Showcase Newly Refurbished Live Oak Library at Open House on August 4
To celebrate the reopening and refurbishment of Live Oak Library, LA County Library and Supervisor Kathryn Barger will host an Open House on August 4, 11 am to 1 pm.
The Open House will feature an outdoor activity for children and teens, a walkthrough of the library’s newly refurbished space, and special messages from Supervisor Kathryn Barger, LA County Library Director Skye Patrick, and representatives from the MAD Town Council, Friends of the Live Oak Library, City of Arcadia and the local community.
Live Oak Library’s refurbishment was made possible by the support of Supervisor Kathryn Barger of the Fifth District and LA County Library. The $7.3 million refurbishment project started on May 20, 2019 and was completed in on September 1, 2020.
LCDG Architects served as the project’s architect, Monet Construction served as the project’s contractor, and construction management services were provided by Los Angeles County Public Works. LA County Library staff also played a significant role in the refurbishment and reopening of Live Oak Library.
Live Oak Library reopened its doors on May 10 for select in-person services as part of the Library’s phased reopening, which followed the State’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy.
Upon visiting Live Oak Library, customers can expect to see exciting new features, including:
- 38 reader seats and 10 lounge seats
- 4 adult computers, 5 teen laptop computers, 4 children’s computers, 2 early learning computers, and 2 iPads to access the catalog
- Laptop vending machine with 12 laptops for in-library use
- Early Learning & Engagement Center
- Community meeting room with kitchenette and state-of-the-art audiovisual system
- Group study room
- 2 self-check machines
- 2 digital information boards
- Lighting control system
- Tables with power outlets and USB charging
- Energy-efficient air conditioning and heating
- Drought-tolerant landscaping
- Water efficient fixtures
- Large skylights for natural daylighting
Live Oak Library is one of several LA County Library locations currently open for select in-person services. LA County Library has safely reopened its libraries at 75% capacity, while also maintaining 6-feet of physical distance for customers.
