Public Health Confirms 8 Additional Cases of the Omicron Variant

15 New Deaths and 1,138 New Positive Cases of Confirmed COVID-19 in Los Angeles County

Public Health is confirming 8 additional cases of the Omicron variant.

  • 8 new confirmed cases reported today, for a total of 15 confirmed cases in Los Angeles County
  • Available information to date indicates:
    • 7 were symptomatic, none required hospitalization
      • The 8th case has unknown symptoms status
    • 5 of the 8 were fully vaccinated and none have received a booster
    • 1 reported international travel and 2 reported travel outside CA
    • 2 of the 8 had previous SARS-CoV-2 infections
    • 2 cases live in the same household

Preliminary data indicates that the Omicron variant is highly infectious and that being fully vaccinated might not provide adequate protection against infection. Public Health encourages everyone who is eligible for a booster to get one as soon as possible and to continue wearing a mask when in crowded public spaces.
