Open Call: Portrait
Li Tang Gallery is looking for artists who explore the realms of portraiture through both realistic and nonrealistic practices to evoke an emotional response regarding these contemporary issues. From paintings, to works on paper, to digital creations, there is no limitation on the media that can be submitted. Through the portraiture discipline, Li Tang Gallery is looking for artists who question our understanding of the world and our positions in it.
Artists at any stage of their career are invited to submit their work for consideration by our guest jury artists Philip A. Robinson Jr. and Jiannan Wu. The online group exhibition will be curated by the Li Tang team and promoted on Li Tang Gallery’s website, social media, and press coverage in both the United States and China.

Eligibility
Open to all artists 18 years and older from all over the world.
All visual art media will be considered.
Artwork must be original. We do not take responsibility for copyright violations.

Submitted images must be labeled as follows:

Jpeg files should not exceed 1MB. Selected artists will be contacted for high-resolution images.
For video submission, we accept time-based artwork or kinetic works that need to be presented in videos. Video submissions should be limited to 2 min. For security reasons, we don’t open sites with passwords or download attachments from the web.
We do not accept submissions via emails.
Timeline
- Submissions will be accepted until October 14, 2022 24:00 EST
- Selected artists will be notified by October 28, 2022
- Exhibition opens on November 7, 2022
- Exhibition closes on January 22, 2023

PHILIP A. ROBINSON JR.
PHILIP A. ROBINSON JR. is an award-winning multi-media sculptor and conceptual artist, who uses wood to symbolize temporality within natural cycles of time and geography to amplify the narrative of identity within popular and marginalized cultures. Robinson has exhibited throughout the tri-state area including, a solo exhibition at the High Line Nine, solo exhibition at the Untitled Space Gallery, Prizm Art Fair during Miami Art Basel, The Rush Arts Gallery, KL City Art Gallery in Malaysia, LuluLemon (Hudson Yards), The National Academy Museum and School, The Barrett Art Center, the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibition, The Frances Young Tang Museum and Art Gallery, Art at the Caves, 14C Jersey City Art show & Juried Exhibition, The Bronx Art Space, The Novado Gallery, The Bridge Art Gallery, Akwaaba Gallery, The Alta Art Building, Art At The Cave, The BSB Gallery, The Conceptions Art Show (New York), Neumeraki, Pro Arts Jersey City, The Carrie Able Gallery, Grace Church School Benefit Auction, the Merseles Studios, 107 Bowers Gallery, the Distillery Gallery, the NEWYORKMINDED Gallery, 1978 Maplewood Arts Center, and SNEAKERROOM. JIANNAN WU
Jiannan Wu (b.1990) is a China-born, New York based artist who creates sculptures and wall reliefs made from resin. He received his BFA Degree in Sculpture from China Academy of Art and his MFA Degree in Sculpture from New York Academy of Art.
Jiannan Wu is the recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant, winner of 2017 Dexter Jones Award presented by American National Sculpture Society, winner of Compleat Sculptor Award, and other awards. He is selected as 2020 AACYF Top 30 Under 30 presented by All America Chinese Youth Federation. His work is recognized as The Best Original Sculpture in 2019 by Sculpture Magazine of China. His works have also been displayed on numerous exhibitions at renowned venues such as Accesso Gallery in Italy, Gallery Poulsen and Art Herning in Denmark, the Sotheby’s, Art Miami, and Southampton Arts Center in America, Bonner Kunstverein in Germany, Chongqing Contemporary Art Museum in China, etc. His works and art achievements have been published in The New York Times, The China Press, Metal Magazine, Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, Hi-Fructose Magazine, Collections Magazine, T(here) Magazine, etc.
