LABOR LEGEND DOLORES HUERTA ENDORSES COUNCILWOMAN LINDSEY P. HORVATH FOR SUPERVISOR

National Farmworkers Association Co-Founder and Civil Rights Activist Throws Support Behind Horvath’s Bid for LA County Supervisor

LOS ANGELES, CA – Today, the exalted activist, feminist, civil rights and labor leader Dolores Huerta officially endorsed Councilwoman Lindsey P. Horvath for Los Angeles County Supervisor. A champion of worker, immigrant and women’s rights, Huerta joins a broad coalition of prominent activists and leaders supporting Horvath’s campaign.

“Lindsey Horvath knows how to create transformational change in her community,” said activist Dolores Huerta. “Her work helping our most underserved groups–immigrants, veterans, LGBTQ+ youth and anyone in need–will be the ethos she brings to the LA County Board of Supervisors. I am proud to support Lindsey for LA County Supervisor.”

Dolores Huerta has been a civil rights advocate for most of her life. She fought tirelessly against the inhumane conditions California farmworkers were facing, leading a nationwide grape boycott in 1965 and supporting efforts for the first farmworker union contracts. With César Chávez, she founded the National Farm Workers Association – the predecessor of the United Farm Workers’ Union. After recovering from a violent attack by the San Francisco Police Department during a peaceful protest, Huerta focused on women’s rights, traveling across the country to encourage Latinas to run for office. She founded the Dolores Huerta Foundation in 2002 to continue her work and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama, the highest civilian award in the United States, in 2012.

“I am honored and humbled to earn the support of one of my sheroes and a true American icon, Dolores Huerta,” said LA County Supervisorial candidate and Councilwoman Lindsey P. Horvath. “She has dedicated her life to fighting for the voiceless. As Supervisor, I will strive to follow in her footsteps as a fierce and fearless advocate for the most marginalized communities.”
