The County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors Makes Unprecedented Investment in County of Los Angeles Parks to Support Youth, Families, and Communities

COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, CA – On Tuesday, October 6, 2022, The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Supplemental Budget, expanding recreational opportunities and programming in County of Los Angeles Parks, with critical investments in our most vulnerable communities.  This unprecedented funding builds from the recent ARPA funding allocation approved by the Board of Supervisors and combined will increase the following access to aquatics, sports, recreation, cultural programming, as well as improve our county park amenities.

  • Setting an affordable $25 sports league fee for LA County Parks competitive sports play including basketball, baseball, volleyball, golf, skateboarding, competitive swim, and water polo, as well as launching the Department’s adaptive sports program.
  • Securing permanent funding for free and accessible core programming: EveryBody Plays, afterschool drop-in at 56 county parks, EveryBody Explores, afterschool drop-in at 8 nature centers, and Sports For All skill building clinics across the county.
  • Expanding the summer aquatic season at 23 seasonal pools from a 10 week to 22 weeks commencing summer 2023.
  • Providing $10M to retrofit seasonal pools with lighting and heating to expand hours of operations during day light savings time.
  • Securing permanent funding for Parks After Dark at 34 county parks for winter, spring, and summer programming.
  • Launching the Urban Fishing program countywide at 10 county lakes.
  • Providing $5M to address much needed health and safety deferred maintenance for trees, parking lots, safety lighting, playgrounds, and many other needs.
  • Expanding the Lifeguard Ready Training and Youth@Work programs with the goal of hiring over 1,000 youth to serve our communities.
