Councilwoman Traci Park Asks For Energy Game Plan For 2028 Olympics

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 15, 2023) -Councilwoman Traci Park has taken a significant step towards promoting sustainable energy infrastructure in preparation for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. On Wednesday, Councilwoman Park presented a motion to the Los Angeles City Council emphasizing the need for a comprehensive energy plan that ensures adequate energy resources for all venues and events associated with the Games and the wider community.

“Our collaboration with energy providers is essential in setting a global example and ensuring a sustainable 2028 Olympic Games,” said Councilwoman Traci Park. “By working together, we can make the necessary infrastructure and services available to all venues and events related to the games, while also promoting sustainability and meeting our broader energy goals.”

In December 2021, the Los Angeles City Council approved a Games Agreement, which in addition to establishing roles and responsibilities of different partners, included the creation of an Energy Council by April 3, 2024. Tasked with ensuring adequate power infrastructure as well as sustainability objectives, the Energy Council will facilitate close coordination between the City, LA 28 and other parties. Councilwoman Park’s motion calls on City departments to report back on the status of the Energy Council’s creation to ensure the City meets this 2024 goal.

“I am confident that this motion highlights the critical importance of collaboration and teamwork in developing a sustainable energy program. By working together, we can support each other’s efforts and make the Games a resounding success for our city.”
