Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh Endorses Suzette Valladares for State Senate

Acton, CA (March 13, 2023) – California State Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh, who represents a large portion of San Bernardino County, as well as Riverside County, in the current 23rd State Senate District, endorses Suzette Valladares for State Senate for the new 23rd State Senate District. Ochoa Bogh was elected in 2020, and is the first elected Latina Republican State Senator in California history.

“Suzette Valladares is a needed voice in the California State Senate, and I proudly endorse her for the new 23rd Senate District. Suzette will be a vocal and strong representative for the people of San Bernardino County, and our mountain and High Desert communities,” said Senator Ochoa Bogh.

Valladares and Ochoa Bogh served together in the California State Legislature between 2000 and 2022.

The new 23rd State Senate District includes the Santa Clarita Valley, Antelope Valley, High Desert, including Hesperia and portions of Victorville, and mountain communities.

Suzette Valladares has served this region for years as the former Executive Director for Southern California Autism Speaks, and currently as Executive Director for a law enforcement personnel supported non-profit serving local youth and teens. Suzette is a former educator, small business owner, and served as a member of the State Assembly representing California’s 38th District with notable accomplishments working to lower the cost of living, expanding education opportunities for families, wildfire prevention, and protecting victims.

Suzette first won her election to the State Assembly in 2020 with more than 70% of the vote. She was narrowly defeated (522 votes) in 2022, running in a newly drawn district that President Joe Biden won by nearly 17%. Valladares is a Republican and previously represented 30% of the new State Senate District 23. While SD 23 has an 11-point Democratic voter advantage, 2022 GOP gubernatorial candidate Brian Dahle received 7.1% more votes than Gavin Newsom. Congressman Mike Garcia bested Democrat Christy Smith by 6.4% in his district, which overlaps 70% of SD 23.
