Los Angeles, CA (July 31, 2023) — The Natural History Museum (NHM) announced today it is collaborating with RIX Productions to bring Boney Island, the popular LA-based Halloween light-up attraction, to the Museum in Exposition Park, from September 28 through October 31, 2023.
Just in time for Halloween, the Natural History Museum will transform its Nature Gardens into a hauntingly whimsical interactive light-up experience for all ages. The event will feature familiar sights for long-time Boney Island fans – skeletons performing rope tricks and levitating through hoops, shadow puppetry, and more. NHM will put its own spin on the event with artistic performances, real fossils, live animal presentations, trick-or-treating, and other ghoulishly glowing installations. Visitors can wander the garden paths as creepy crawlies, silly skeletons, and carnivores from the Cretaceous abound!
“We are so excited to bring Boney Island to Exposition Park,” said Lori Bettison-Varga, President and Director of the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County. “NHM aims to be a place of community and fun far beyond the exhibitions on view, and this one-of-a-kind attraction will be a wonderful way to experience our beautiful Nature Gardens after hours. When the Museum is closed, the creatures come out, and we invite you to celebrate the spooky season in nature with us.”
The Simpsons producer Rick Polizzi created Boney Island for his family more than 20 years ago. It grew from a front yard display to a huge affair in Griffith Park with a cult-like following of Halloween lovers of all ages. The attraction closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, after a three-year hiatus, the crowd-pleasing event will be resurrected in Exposition Park.

Boney Island will be presented at NHM Thursday through Sunday nights, after museum hours, starting September 28 and running through Halloween (including October 30 and 31) from 6 pm to 10 pm, with additional hours added on certain nights. Tickets are $25 per person and go on sale August 24 to the general public.
NHMLAC Members will receive early access on August 22 and a discounted rate of $20 per person. Advanced reservations are encouraged as the event is expected to sell out, but limited tickets will be available onsite during museum hours and at the gate on event night.
Tickets and information will be available at nhm.org/boneyisland.
Event programming and hours may vary.
