Supervisor Hahn Orders County Flags Lowered Following Passing of LASD Recruit

Los Angeles, CA (July 31, 2023)—Today, Chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Janice Hahn has ordered all County flags at County facilities to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Alejandro Martinez.

Martinez was a part of the Sheriff’s Department Academy Class #464. He passed away July 28, 2023, succumbing to injuries eight months after being one of a number of recruits struck by a vehicle during a morning training exercise in South Whittier in November of last year.

“Last year, when we started a new effort to recruit more Sheriff’s deputies, Alejandro Martinez answered our call,” said Supervisor Hahn. “His passing, months after that terrible crash, is nothing short of a tragedy. Our county owes Alejandro a great debt of gratitude we can never repay. My prayers are with his family, his friends, and his fellow recruits. May he rest in peace.”

All County flags at County facilities will remain at half-staff until the end of day of memorial services.
