NATIONAL NIGHT OUT CELEBRATIONS AT THE COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER

Community-Building Get Together for Families in

Unincorporated Whittier

Whittier, August 2, 2023 – The Los Angeles County Development Authority’s (LACDA) Community Resource Center (CRC) celebrated a successful National Night Out, with this year’s event featuring a March and Rally Against Crime. An annual event across the country, National Night Out is an opportunity for families to gather with neighbors and create partnerships with local law enforcement in an effort to create safer neighborhoods.

National Night Out is an annual event at the CRC; this year’s event was attended by 800 families and hosted in collaboration with Chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Janice Hahn, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department, Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation, Consumer and Business Affairs, and the California Highway Patrol.

The march commenced at the CRC and made its way to Amelia Mayberry County Park where activities included an outdoor concert, children’s games, and educational booths which offered safety, hands-on CPR demonstrations and mental health information. To stay refreshed, families enjoyed summer treats and cold drinks. The event provided an opportunity for participants to connect with their neighbors, march for a safe neighborhood for all, and celebrate their community.

“National Night Out may only be celebrated once a year, but the CRC’s presence in this neighborhood and the turnout we see every year shows just how important these events are,” said Emilio Salas, LACDA Executive Director. “The S. Whittier neighborhood has been very welcoming to us, and we are equally happy to be here celebrating with them.”

The CRC is located at 10750 Laurel Avenue in South Whittier. For information on services provided by the CRC, please call (562) 946-2425, or visit the website at www.swcrc.org.
