COSTA MESA, CA | Segerstrom Center for the Arts is proud to announce a vibrant lineup of Spring events that will offer cultural enrichment, inspire creativity, and provide a welcoming space for community members to gather and celebrate the arts. Over the next few months, the Plaza will come alive with art, music, dance and film for all ages arts enthusiasts to enjoy and share connected experiences.

 

Kickstarting the festivities are two free outdoor concerts on the Argyros Plaza featuring Omoghéné, an international recording artist and singer-songwriter, and Adelaide, a talented singer-songwriter based in Orange County. Omoghéné’s R&B and neo-soul blended sounds and Adelaide’s unique musical blend of bossa nova and Amy Winehouse inspired pop sounds will set the stage for delightful pre-show performances before MJ: The Musical. Savor delicious food and refreshing drinks from George’s Café while enjoying the sweet melodies of these free concerts on Tuesday, March 19 and Thursday, March 28 at 6:15 PM.

 

Tuesday Night Dance classes return on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 and will continue with consecutive Tuesdays leading up to a celebration of National Dance Day on Saturday, September 21, 2024. These free instructor-led classes provide fun opportunities to explore different dance styles and genres that range anywhere from bachata to line dancing. Whether you are looking to explore your inner dancer, or just wanting to get a good sweat in, Tuesday Night Dance is sure to provide an evening of fun.

 

Experience the magic of Disney like never before as the Broadway Diva’s host an all new enchanting Drag Brunch on Sunday, April 212024, in the Samueli Theater. Patrons are invited to step into a world where fantasy meets fabulousness complete with whimsical performances, delicious food and drinks and all your favorite Magic Kingdom characters brought to life by our dazzling drag queens!

 

In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage month, Segerstrom Center for the Arts will provide live music, dance, and films to honor and recognize AAPI arts and culture throughout the month of May. The month will offer Polynesian Tuesday Night Dance classes, live music performances on the Argyros Stage, and a series of movie screenings on Fridays. These screenings will provide a space for celebration, conversation, and engagement with the stories and perspectives of filmmakers and storytellers from AAPI communities.

 

For those that love to get lost in the music, Silent Disco will return on Friday, May 17 for a night of light-up wireless headphones, dance, and good vibes. Bring your best dancing shoes, because at Silent Disco, the party never ends.

AAPI Heritage Month Events and Tuesday Night Dances classes are free with a plaza pass. Plaza Pass is a free digital pass for individuals over 18 years old to access free events on the Julianne and George Argyros Plaza. No additional tickets or RSVPs required, just pull up your Plaza Pass from your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet when you arrive and our ushers will scan you in!

Individuals under 18 years old are welcome to accompany an adult in their household or another Plaza Pass holder as a guest or register for their own individual Plaza Pass in-person during a Plaza event.

Omoghéné before MJ: The Musical. Omoghéné is an international recording
artist and singer-songwriter known for blending R&B and neo-soul sounds
with a pop twist to showcase her church upbringing. The Urhobo name
“Omoghéné” is translated in English as “God’s Child” and is a constant
reverence to the Most High while honoring the Nigerian background of her
parents. Savor delicious food and refreshing drinks from George’s Café and
enjoy the sweet melodies of this free pre-show performance!

Tuesday Night Dance is a series of free, fun, and upbeat dance classes open to all ages and abilities out on the Julianne and George Argyros Plaza. The classes begin on April 2, 2024 and continue for consecutive Tuesdays all summer long leading up to a celebration of National Dance Day on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Tuesday Night Dance is both a great opportunity to get involved in the community and get some exercise while doing so! All are welcome and no dance experience is required. With a wide variety dance genres and styles to choose from, there is something for everyone. Past Tuesday Night Dance offerings have included Bollywood, hip hop, bachata, line dancing, Broadway, belly dancing, and many more. Shireen Rogers of Irvine called Tuesday Night Dance “a blast” and said that the program is “building a sense of community.” (Orange County Register, 2023)

Whether you’re a Disney enthusiast or just looking for a dazzling Sunday at the Center, this whimsical and magical production promises a feast for the senses with larger-than-life costumes, sets, and choreographed performances from your favorite Magic Kingdom characters by Orange County’s best dazzling drag queens!

 

Doors open for all guests at 11:00 am. Program starts at 12:00 noon. Early arrival is encouraged for all guests who purchase a floor seat with access to the brunch buffet. Loft seating does not include access to the brunch buffet. All guests 21+ will receive 1 drink ticket at check in eligible for a complimentary glass of champagne. Additional drinks may be purchased separately.

Throughout the month of May, Segerstrom Center for the Arts is celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month by shining a spotlight on local Asian American and Pacific Islander communities and artists. The monthlong celebration includes dance classes, live music, film screenings and creative activities for everyone in the Orange County community to enjoy! Artistic offerings include Polynesian Tuesday Night dance lessons, Live on Argyros Stage concerts, and a series of movie screenings that celebrate and honor Asian culture, community, and expression. This year’s features include drama Past Lives, previous winner of VAALA’s Viet Film Fest Funny Money, and family movie night with MoanaThis year, four film screenings will take place on each Friday in May, including a unique multimedia exploration of Black anime music and Japanese jazz with South Side Symphony on May 31 that celebrates the cultural exchange for AAPI Heritage Month and Black Music Month in June.

Coming Soon – Summer Sounds 2024

Everyone’s favorite concert series Summer Sounds will return with Friday concerts at the Julianne and George Argyros Plaza throughout June and July. These concerts will bring the vibrant energy of some of Southern California’s most eclectic artists. Summer Sounds concerts are free with a plaza pass and open to all ages. From salsa to soul, and everything in between, the lineup promises a musical journey that caters to every taste. Segerstrom Center is proud to celebrate Black Music Month this June, with a focus on amplifying Black voices, musical origins, and influence. This series will highlight Black artists and creatives over the course of several exciting programs including live performances, Tuesday Night Dance classes, and more!

 

Confirmed artists for Summer Sounds 2024 include 12- piece Latin orchestra Boogaloo Assassins on June 7, talented saxophonist J. Boykin & Friends on June 14and multidisciplinary singer/songwriter, composer, and violinist V.C.R ft. Soulquest on June 21. Information on additional artists will be coming soon!
