Costa Mesa, CA – Segerstrom Center for the Arts is thrilled to announce its fifth annual Coollab Festival on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 6-10 pm on the Julianne and George Argyros Plaza. This vibrant celebration invites all ages to revel in the magic of local artists, performers, vendor pop ups, and interactive experiences, all under one starlit sky. The festival offers a fantastic opportunity for attendees to enjoy a stunning array of talents from their own communities.

Since its inception in 2016, The Coollab Project has stood as a beacon of creativity within the Santa Ana arts scene, igniting “cool collaborations through music” and fostering a welcoming space for artists, performers, and audiences alike. What initially sparked as an open mic night at the 4th Street Market has blossomed into a grand evening affair of boundless creativity and profound connections. The Coollab Festival at Segerstrom Center for the Arts serves as a natural extension of The Coollab Project’s mission. Over the past 5 years, The Coollab Festival has evolved into a cherished tradition at the Center, where local musicians, visual artists, and vendors converge to learn, flourish, and create lasting bonds. Past performances have showcased an array of local luminaries such as Rae Khalil, Weapons of Mass Creation, Undecided Future and more!

This year’s Coollab Festival promises a kaleidoscope of live performances, ranging from heartfelt melodies to electrifying beats, with a rich lineup of featured talent including soulful hostess and headliner; Samy Love, hip hop jazz quintet, Apollo Bepop and talented trumpeteer & founder of the Coollab Project, ALäZ.

Samy Love is a Mexican activist, artist and current host of The Coollab Project based out of Santa Ana, CA. Her music, poetry, and words are heavily influenced by the stories within her community — stories of tragedy, hope, love, and justice. ALäZ

ALäZ is an award-winning recording artist, producer, composer, preserver of culture, and servant to the people. He founded The Coollab Project in 2016 with the intent of creating a community built on love, respect, and support no matter anyone’s class, creed, or color. He is a graduate of Morehouse College, 1500 Sound Academy and serves as the lead Hip Hop songwriting coach for the Otis Redding Foundation. He’s collaborated with artists from Roc Nation, Dreamville, and RCA Records along with brands like the NFL, Disney, and the Harlem Globetrotters. Whether moving the crowd as a lyrical force, or playing captivating melodies on his trumpet, he is truly a one-of-a-kind artistic genius.

Apollo Bebop

Apollo Bebop is a hip hop jazz quintet from Santa Ana, CA that has been part of The Coollab Project since it’s inception. Serving as house band and building off the likes of John Coltrane and A Tribe Called Quest, Apollo Bebop has been redefining and innovating hip hop as it’s known today through their authenticity and raw energy. The group has completed two US west coast tours and headlined numerous shows throughout Los Angeles and Orange County in addition to opening for KRS-One, Aloe Blacc, & Gavlyn. The band was awarded OC Weekly’s “Best New Band” and “Best Hip-Hop,” having garnered an impressive local following with their powerful and energetic live performances. “Apollo like the Greek god, Bebop like jazz.”
