The 2024 Sundance Film Festival: Asia with series of events will take place in Taipei, Taiwan from August 21 to August 25. Today, the speakers for the first master panel were announced: Makoto Tezuka, son of the “Walt Disney of Japan” Osamu Tezuka, who will kick off the panel with an exciting opening. His wife, Reiko Okano, the renowned author of the manga “Onmyoji,” will accompany him to Taiwan, stirring up excitement among manga fans, movie enthusiasts, and film industry professionals! Last year’s highly acclaimed master panels featured numerous Hollywood figures sharing valuable practical experiences, including director Justin Lin of the “Fast and Furious” series and producer Dan Lin, known for blockbusters like “It,” “The LEGO Movie,” and “Sherlock Holmes.” This year’s lineup promises to be even more spectacular. The organizers especially thank the Taipei Film Commission for their strong support and invitation, which made the dream combination of Makoto Tezuka and his wife coming to Taiwan possible. Director Tezuka will host a talk on August 23 at Syntrend Show Hall on the 12th floor of Syntrend Creative Park, where he will share his unique insights on filmmaking. Director Makoto Tezuka has a wealth of creative experience and deep artistic talent. He began making films with 8mm film in high school and won several competitions. He also received support from renowned directors Nagisa Oshima and Nobuhiko Obayashi. Industry insiders have noted that Tezuka’s films are characterized by strong visual and artistic styles, with a distinctive Japanese quirkiness and a touch of cult appeal. During his university years, he completed his first feature film, “The Legend of the Stardust Brothers.” This film was also screened at the Golden Horse Fantastic Film Festival, showcasing his creative ingenuity and vibrant visual palette, combined with melodramatic plots, making it highly distinctive. In this master panel, Director Tezuka will share his experiences and stories from the filmmaking process with fans and filmmakers. He will analyze how to transform an idea into vivid images from a director’s perspective and discuss the future development trends of the film industry.
