Hahn Issues Statement Following Early Sunday Morning Assault on Metro Train
Los Angeles, CA – In the early hours of Sunday morning, a passenger aboard an E Line Metro train was sexually assaulted near the Culver City Station. The victim managed to alert the train operator using the train’s emergency call system. Acting promptly, the operator halted the train, located both the victim and the suspect, and stayed with them until law enforcement arrived. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies responded within minutes, arresting the suspect.
In response to the incident, LA County Supervisor and Metro Chair Janice Hahn issued the following statement:
“I am deeply grateful to the courageous train operator who took swift action to assist a passenger in need. I am also thankful that law enforcement arrived quickly and apprehended the suspect.
However, this is yet another reminder that we must prioritize the prevention of violent crimes in our transit system, rather than only reacting to them. I want our uniformed law enforcement officers and transit security officers actively patrolling our buses and trains—not waiting at stations or in their vehicles until after a crime has occurred.”
