In his first term, Cheng prioritized public safety by working closely with Arcadia’s fire and police departments to ensure they had the necessary resources to protect the community. His efforts earned endorsements from two major public safety organizations, making him the only candidate in his district to receive such support. Cheng is known for his accessible leadership style, including publicly sharing his personal phone number so residents can contact him directly, a practice that has built trust and fostered strong community connections.

Public safety remains a top priority for Cheng, who has adopted a zero-tolerance approach to crime. He has supported increased funding for law enforcement and advocated for stronger partnerships between police and residents to enhance trust and collaboration. Cheng has focused on reducing theft, violent crimes, and gang activities, with a firm stance that no form of crime will take root in Arcadia.

Under Cheng’s leadership, Arcadia achieved significant financial milestones, including a $35 million surplus, $70 million in reserves, and over $135 million in investments. These accomplishments demonstrate the city’s solid fiscal preparedness. Cheng emphasized that financial responsibility is his duty to taxpayers, vowing to ensure that every dollar is spent to improve the community’s well-being and maintain Arcadia as a thriving city for hardworking families.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Cheng expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of Arcadia residents. “I sincerely thank every Arcadian for their continued trust. Over the next four years, I will work even harder to serve all residents, including the 30% who did not vote for me this time. My goal is to ensure that every voice is heard and that Arcadia remains a safe and prosperous community,” he stated.

Looking ahead, Cheng plans to continue working closely with frontline police and fire personnel to address public safety, reduce crime, and tackle homelessness. He also aims to strengthen partnerships with county and state governments to address challenges while preserving Arcadia’s reputation as a top-tier city for living and working. Cheng highlighted that maintaining low crime rates is essential to attracting families and businesses, and he pledged to protect the community’s welfare with unwavering dedication.

Cheng’s political journey began during the COVID-19 pandemic when he first ran for office in 2020 and won decisively. His reelection in 2024 reaffirms the community’s confidence in his leadership, particularly his crisis management skills during unprecedented challenges.

The evening also marked a historic moment as David Fu, representing District 1, was sworn in for his first term, making the Arcadia City Council composed entirely of five Asian American councilmembers. This milestone in local governance and public safety leadership is further highlighted by the city’s Asian American police and fire chiefs.

Paul Cheng’s reelection underscores his commitment to public safety, crime prevention, and community prosperity, while signaling residents’ trust in his vision for Arcadia’s future. Cheng reaffirmed his promise to work collaboratively with residents to ensure Arcadia remains one of California’s safest and most livable cities, fostering harmony, stability, and opportunity for all.
