CUAAASC Annual Celebration Gathers Over 500 Guests in San Gabriel
San Gabriel, CA (Dec 2, 2024) – On December 1, the Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel hosted the CUAAASC (Chinese Universities Alumni Association Alliance of Southern California) Annual Celebration, bringing together more than 500 attendees. Participants included alumni from member associations, community leaders, and elected officials. The event featured leadership transition ceremonies, performances, and engaging activities like raffles.
Outgoing President Shan Li reflected on CUAAASC’s achievements over the past year, expressing gratitude to alumni and media supporters. “Our alliance has become one of the most influential Chinese organizations in Southern California. I am confident the new leadership team will uphold our mission and continue building platforms for collaboration and growth,” she said. Outgoing Chair Lisa Smith highlighted the organization’s growth in 2024, with member associations increasing from 74 to 79, representing over 50,000 alumni. The year also saw the introduction of new clubs, revised governance structures, and over 100 events.
Incoming President Guoyun Liu, also the President of the Shandong University Alumni Association of Southern California, delivered an inspiring inaugural speech titled “Carrying Alumni Trust, Spreading Warmth, and Embarking on a New Journey.” Liu pledged to uphold CUAAASC’s traditions while introducing initiatives focused on emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and medical technology, aiming to help Chinese enterprises expand globally and support youth employment.
Newly appointed Chair Dongquan Wu emphasized fostering unity among member associations and organizing impactful events. “Together, we will enhance CUAAASC’s contributions to our community, creating greater value for all,” Wu stated.
Vice Consul General Huang Hongjiang of the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles attended and commended CUAAASC’s contributions to alumni connections, cultural exchange, and community development over the past eight years.
Congresswoman Judy Chu lauded CUAAASC for its impactful events and meaningful contributions to the Southern California Chinese-American community. She presented a certificate of recognition to the organization.
The leadership transition ceremony saw outgoing President Shan Li symbolically pass the CUAAASC flag to incoming President Guoyun Liu.
Founded in 2002, CUAAASC serves as a communication and resource-sharing platform for alumni from universities in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. With 79 member associations, 19 clubs, and five specialized committees, CUAAASC represents tens of thousands of professionals across Southern California. Committed to fostering collaboration and mutual support, the alliance plays a vital role in community enrichment and cultural exchange.
