LUNAR NEW YEAR FESTIVALS ACROSS LA COUNTY CELEBRATE THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE
LA County Parks stage free cultural celebrations with food tastings, art, music and cultural performances
LOS ANGELES (January 22, 2025) – Usher in good luck, health, and prosperity by celebrating the Lunar New Year with festivals staged by the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation (LA County Parks).
The community is invited to enjoy these free, family-friendly events to celebrate the Year of the Snake. These festivals will feature entertainment, cultural and artistic experiences, snacks, crafts workshops, and more, at 61 select parks across the county from January 23 to February 8.
The Lunar New Year marks a 15-day celebration of the arrival of Spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunar calendar. The Lunar New Year is a cherished celebration across East Asian and Southeast Asian cultures, symbolizing renewal, prosperity, and unity. It’s a time to honor the past year’s blessings, reflect on resilience, and welcome good fortune for the year ahead.
Each Lunar New Year highlights one of twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac. In 2025, it is the Year of the Snake, a symbol of transformation, wisdom, and vitality. LA County Parks will celebrate the theme with lantern crafts, snake-themed decorations, traditional food tastings, lion and dragon dances, and other cultural performances.
“These community-driven events are designed to bring together individuals from all backgrounds while showcasing the rich history and practices of the Lunar New Year,” said Norma E. García-González, Director, LA County Parks. “They celebrate resilience and renewal, drawing strength from our community as we look forward to an incredible year ahead.”
Local community organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club and the San Gabriel Valley Chinese-American Friendship Association, are partnering with LA County Parks to host engaging and interactive Lunar New Year activities and programming.
