With a raspy yet magnetic voice, he shouted, “I love you, Haikou!” igniting the passion of 40,000 fans. Under dazzling lights that painted the stage like a sea of crimson wheat fields, Kanye, clad in his signature dark attire and iconic mask, delivered a performance so powerful it left the audience breathless. Meanwhile, his four children joyfully ran through a stage set resembling a wheat field, adding a heartwarming touch to the spectacle.
For three unforgettable hours, the show wasn’t just a celebration of music but a vivid lens through which the world could glimpse the determination of China’s reform and opening-up.
Music transcends borders, but hosting world-class events demands an open and inclusive mindset. Over the decades, Hainan has evolved from a quiet island known for its palm trees and sandy beaches into a global hub of opportunity. As China’s largest special economic zone, it has adopted bold policies to integrate deeply into the global economy. The Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP), launched in 2020, allows visa-free entry for visitors from 59 countries for up to 30 days. In 2024, over 1 million foreign visitors traveled to Hainan, reflecting its growing international appeal.
The FTP has also spurred the growth of duty-free shopping, with sales reaching $9.6 billion in 2023, contributing significantly to the island’s GDP, which climbed to nearly $88 billion at an impressive annual growth rate of 9.3%, far surpassing the national average. Hainan has become the preferred venue for high-profile art exhibitions, international film festivals, and world-class sporting events, solidifying its role as a global platform where East meets West.
Today, global icons like Kanye West are increasingly making China a key destination on their world tours.
