COUNTY EXTENDS PRICE GOUGING PROTECTIONS FOR HOUSING
LOS ANGELES, CA (March 4, 2025) – Today, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath’s motion to extend price gouging protections for housing through April 8, 2025. This motion comes in response to continued reports of rental price gouging and overpricing of essential goods following the January 2025 Los Angeles County Fires. Without this extension, the current protections would have expired on March 9, 2025.
“Last week, Los Angeles County protected renters from eviction who were financially impacted by the wildfires and, today, we extend protections on price gouging for rental housing, short-term rentals, and hotel accommodations,” said Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath. “No one should have to worry about losing their housing while trying to recover from a disaster. LA County remains committed to supporting our impacted communities as they rebuild their lives.”
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors previously unanimously increased the maximum civil penalty for price gouging to $50,000 per violation, reinforcing the County’s commitment to protecting renters and consumers from exploitative practices during times of crisis.
How Residents Can Report Price Gouging:
