Cal Retailers Responds to CalRecycle’s Action on SB 54 Regulations

The California Retailers Association (CRA) issued the following statement in response to CalRecycle’s decision to extend the rulemaking process on the regulations pertaining to the implementation of SB 54, California’s plastic packaging Extended Producer Responsibility Program.

“The California Retailers Association acknowledges Cal Recycle’s decision to revisit the SB 54 draft regulations and stands ready to collaborate with CalRecycle and all stakeholders to expedite a regulatory package that fulfills the policy intent of SB 54 (Allen). Our goal is to ensure the regulations can be successfully implemented, achieve California’s ambitious recycling objectives, and avoid placing undue financial burdens on consumers.

CRA members are fully committed to the environmental goals of SB 54 and are prepared to work diligently to make this program a national model for extended producer responsibility. By taking the time to craft a well-balanced and effective regulatory framework, we can demonstrate leadership in addressing plastic pollution and advancing sustainable recycling practices.”
