South Bay Student Video Festival at Mira Costa
The 18th annual South Bay Student Video Festival, which takes place Friday, May 18, at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, received nearly 600 submissions from around the globe.
“The original point of having this festival was to expose my students to a variety of voices and perspectives and styles of filmmaking,” said Michael Hernandez, Media Arts Department Chair, about the festival he started in 2001. “The world is much smaller now, so it only made sense to solicit submissions from other countries. Especially now in our current political climate, it’s even more important to hear voices from other people and cultures so that we can build connections and understand each other better.”
The 7 p.m. screening takes place at the Small Theater next to the Mira Costa High School Auditorium at 1401 Artesia Blvd. in Manhattan Beach. Admission is $5 at the door.
