Solis Appoints Ernesto J. Pantoja, Christine Salazar, and Dr. Perla Hernandez Trumkul to Los Angeles County Commissions

LOS ANGELES, Calif. Dec. 2, 2025 – Today, Los Angeles County Chair and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis announced three appointments to vital County commissions, bringing experienced leaders to the forefront of retirement oversight, public social services, and library policy. Ernesto J. Pantoja will join the Board of Retirement, Christine Salazar will serve on the Commission for Public Social Services, and Dr. Perla Hernandez Trumkul has been appointed to the Library Commission.

“These appointments reflect our ongoing commitment to strengthening Los Angeles County,” said Chair Solis. “Ernesto, Christine, and Perla are proven leaders who have devoted their careers to empowering residents and improving programs and services that matter most. I am confident they will bring vision, dedication, and expertise to their roles and make a lasting impact.”

Each brings extensive experience and a proven record of leadership to their new roles.

About the appointees

Ernesto J. Pantoja has more than 18 years of experience in government affairs and labor relations. He is the Special Projects Agent for Laborers Local 300, supporting workforce and business development for service veterans and disadvantaged workers. On the Board of Retirement, Pantoja will oversee the County’s retirement system and retiree healthcare programs, ensuring long-term stability for thousands of employees and retirees.

Christine Salazar is a community leader, public servant, and advocate for equity. She most recently served as Trustee and Board President for the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District, where she championed workforce pathways, student access to higher education, and equitable policies. On the Commission for Public Social Services, Salazar will advise on programs including CalWORKs, General Relief, food and nutrition benefits, and services for seniors and people with disabilities.

Dr. Perla A. Hernandez Trumkul is an equity strategist and advocate for community-centered policy. She focuses on shared caregiving responsibilities and empowering women leaders. Hernandez Trumkul previously served as District Chief of Staff for U.S. Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano. On the Library Commission, she will help shape policy and services, using her expertise to expand access to public learning spaces and resources across the County.
