UC Irvine Doctor Charged Filming People in His Bathroom
A doctor at the University of California, Irvine was charged with disorderly conduct after allegedly secretly filming people inside the bathroom of his home, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said Friday.
Dr. Duc Minh Vu, 33, is facing a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct and was arraigned on Friday.
He is identified on the UC Irvine website as a clinical instructor in the neurology department. The university did not respond to a request for comment regarding the doctor’s current employment status.
Dr. Vu stands accused of placing two concealed cameras inside the restroom of his Orange home — one that appeared to be a black USB charger and another disguised as a digital clock, according to prosecutors. More than a dozen guests and roommates were secretly filmed by the cameras.
One of the victims discovered the cameras on Aug. 5, 2017, prosecutors said. He called the Orange Police Department and Dr. Vu was eventually arrested at the scene, according to the DA.
Since Dr. Vu is only facing charge but has not been convicted, there is no impact thus far on his medical license, said Susan Wolbarst, a spokesperson for the California Medical Board.
“A charge is an allegation — it’s nothing that’s been proven,” Wolbarst said. She said the doctor will be required to report the crime to the state board if he is convicted.
No further information has been released by the DA’s office.
