Los Angeles – March, 27, 2021 – Thousands of demonstrators rallied in the center of the city to support #StopAsianHate on Saturday March 27. Demonstration throughout the nation started in late February after a surge of attacks on Asian Americans broke out. The protest in LA comes a week after the deadly attack in Atlanta that left 8 dead, among which 6 were Asians. That’s on top of nearly 3,800 hate crimes reported where Asian victims were targets last year, and 68% of the victims were women.

Marchers carried signs with phrases such as “Stop Asian Hate”, “No on Crimes”, “Protect Asian Lives”, “Justice for Asians”, “Asian Lives Matter”, and “Justice, Not Politics”. The march started in Los Angeles City Hall and concluded at the same place.

Several demonstrators expressed fears, angers, and worries they claimed the bloody shooting in Atlanta, the unprovoked beating of innocent Asian elderly on city streets, plus a series of insensitive acts from News outlets, such as Teen Vogue’s appointment of Alexi McCammond as Editor in Chief despite her past anti-Asian rhetorics, were pushing them over the breaking point.

Daniel Wu, co-founder of Chinese Young Professionals Network (CYPN)

“Racism towards Asian isn’t new, from the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, to Japanese Interim Camp during the WWII, to today’s hostile attitude towards Asians from both the progressive and conservative policy makers”, said Daniel Wu, co-founder of Chinese Young Professionals Network (CYPN), a 501c3 non profit org, also an Executive at a publicly traded company based in LA, “Some politicians condemned crimes on Asians, and yet we have not seen any concrete actions that led to arrests and charges of the criminals who attacked our Asian American community. George Gascon, the Los Angeles County District Attorney is essentially giving the criminals a Free pass so those thugs on the streets have no deterrents. The new California law on murder also led to the release of the criminals who killed Xinran Ji, a Chinese students that was beaten to death with a bat by the group of murderes in part because of his ethnicity.”

Another volunteer Bennie Mo, founder of a trading firm and a music producer, created a group T-shirts that featured a Giant Panda for her fellow friends that read “Destroy Racism. Be like a Panda. I’m Black, White, and Asian”. The Mayor of San Marino, Steven Huang, local residents Sylvia Koh and Annie Hou are volunteered to join the team activity. “We want the State the fund and launch a statewide marketing campaign to educate the public on Asian American’s contribution to the US. Educate the public about the dark past of discrimination against Asians, and raise AAPI awareness beyond Lunar New Year. Teach culture, history as part of elementary, middle, high school curriculum. If we start this now, 20 years later the new generation will grow up appreciating AAPI contribution and culture, and there will not be a need to #StopAsianHate”.
