LAUSD BOARD PRESIDENT KELLY GONEZ ENDORSES COUNCILMEMBER LINDSEY P. HORVATH FOR SUPERVISOR

President of the Country’s Second Largest School District Throws Support Behind Horvath’s Campaign

LOS ANGELES, CA – Today, the Councilmember Lindsey P. Horvath’s robust coalition of support from Los Angeles County leaders for her Supervisorial bid grew with the announcement of Los Angeles Unified School District President Kelly Gonez’s endorsement of her campaign.

“Lindsey Horvath is a leader who knows how to make an impact for the kids and communities who need it most – from assisting in developing affordable housing options to enacting strong minimum wage and worker protections,” said LAUSD Board President Kelly Gonez. “I know that she will forge a brighter, more equitable future for my family and every family in LA County.”

Before serving as President of the Los Angeles Board of Education, Gonez was a math and science teacher as well as an education policy advisor in the Obama administration. During her time on the Board, she has shown her commitment to removing barriers to education for historically underserved students through increased investment in public education and early childhood education as well as expanded services for homeless students.

“I am honored to have LAUSD President Kelly Gonez’s support in this race,” said Councilmember Lindsey P. Horvath. “LA County relied on public officials to get through the height of the pandemic, and Kelly was at the forefront for our students and their families. She helped lead the largest free meal program expansion to students and adults who needed it the most during the pandemic. As Supervisor, I look forward to working together with her as well as the entire Los Angeles Unified School District to make sure our public schools and students receive the best education, much-needed resources, and social service supports, no matter their zip code.”
