Morning Light Foundation (USA) 2018 Scholarship accepting application

Morning Light Foundation (MLF) is a non-profit charitable organization (IRC501c3 exempt organization) dedicated to enhancing education in China. It is founded in 2005 in Los Angeles. Since then, Morning Light has been working hand in hand with the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. In the past 12 years, over 20 elementary schools have been built and more than 5,000 university students with financial need have been benefited with its scholarship program in Guangxi, Jiangxi, Anhui and the Hunan provinces.

 

In 2015, with the help of the Los Angeles Chinese Consulate-General, MLF had set up the “Morning Light Foundation (USA) Scholarship” for Foreign Students. Close to 10 scholarships of $5,000 each were awarded to top marks students with financial need since then.

Starting 2018, the “MLF (USA) Scholarship” will expand into two categories: the original “MLF (Foreign Students) Scholarship”; and the new program “MLF (Domestic Students) Scholarship”. The new program will allow Southern California University Students of Chinese Descent with financial need to apply.

 

The “MLF (USA) Scholarship” will accept applications from students studying in the Southern California region, starting January 1 – February 28, 2018. Each recipient will be awarded a $5,000 Scholarship. Up to 10 scholarships of $5,000 will be awarded.

 

 

Eligibility

Must be a Chinese citizen with valid passport,valid visa and status. (Please provide copies of passport, visa and I-20)  

1. Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the US.(Please provide copies of Green card/ Passport/ Birth Certificate)

 

Must be enrolled to an accredited 4-year college or university full time (No less than 12 units/semester) or (No less than 8 units/semester for students in the Master program)

Undergrad student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 & 3.7 for the Master program

Scholars with the Government program are not eligible to apply.

 

Criteria

1. Applicant must have actual financial need and proof.

 

(Local students must provide tax return of the previous year)

 

2. Applicant must have strong leadership and be involved in the community, volunteer, and excel in academic and moral wise.(please provide copies of awards and certificates)

 

 

3. Please provide copies of Transcript. Students in master program to proovide copies of term paper, etc. to show academic marks.

 

 

4. Please provide Letter of recommendations from Professors.

 

 

5. Please write Essay titled: “Why do I want to apply for the Morning Light Foundation Scholarship?”

 

Timeline:

Application must be received between January 1, 2018 to February 28, 2018.

Applications will be reviewed in March. Recipients will be chosen in April with Judges Panel along with representatives from MLF.
“MLF (Foreign Students) Scholarship” recipients must attend the award ceremony take place in the Chinese Consulate General May of 2018.
All Recipients must attend the Morning Light Foundation Domestic Scholarship Award Ceremony between the months of May to June. Check will be presented the same night.
