Supervisor Solis Joins Mayor Bass in Bringing Olympic Flag to Los Angeles
Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis shared her thoughts after returning from a four-day visit to Paris, France, where she joined Mayor Karen Bass and other local leaders to bring the Olympic flag back to Los Angeles. The visit, aimed at studying strategies and logistics for the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028, marks an important step in the city’s preparations for the global event.
“This will be the third time Los Angeles has hosted the Games, and each time, we have proven our capability to manage large-scale international events. The 2028 Games will be no different,” Supervisor Solis stated. “The return of the Olympics to Los Angeles is not only significant for our region but also for the world at large. It symbolizes a blend of history, economic growth, cultural exchange, and inspiration.”
Solis also acknowledged the concerns that often accompany such major events, including potential increases in inequities, displacement, and environmental impact. “We are aware of these challenges and are proactively addressing them,” she said. “The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has already passed several motions to ensure the Games are equitable and inclusive. Our efforts include uplifting local artists, hiring a local workforce, procuring from local and minority-owned businesses, enhancing mobility, ensuring public safety, and advancing a comprehensive sustainability plan.”
Supervisor Solis emphasized her commitment to leveraging internal resources to create a lasting legacy from the 2028 Games that will benefit both current and future generations. “We are working closely with residents, philanthropic partners, and the private sector to realize these community benefits,” she concluded. “Our goal is to make sure that the impact of the Olympics extends far beyond the event itself, leaving a positive mark on our community for years to come.”
