The 2024 U.S.-Ukraine Cyber Dialogue Convenes in Kyiv

KYIV, Ukraine — Senior U.S. and Ukrainian officials convened in Kyiv on August 14, 2024, for the sixth annual U.S.-Ukraine Cyber Dialogue, focusing on deepening cooperation on cyber defense and policy. The discussions highlighted ongoing collaboration amid Russia’s continued aggression against Ukraine.

During the dialogue, the U.S. delegation reaffirmed its steadfast support for Ukraine’s cyber defense. Since February 2022, the United States has provided $82 million in digital assistance to Ukraine, with more than $120 million invested since 2016 to enhance the nation’s cybersecurity capabilities. This support aims to bolster Ukraine’s ability to detect, deter, and respond to Russian cyber threats.

Key topics included the evolving cyber threat landscape, protection of sensitive data, critical infrastructure, and broader cyber governance. Both nations explored opportunities for greater collaboration in areas such as cyber diplomacy, sanctions, and combatting cybercrime on the global stage. They also discussed long-term cyber resilience and innovations in cybersecurity and communication technologies to secure Ukraine’s IT and telecommunications sectors.

Ambassador Nathaniel C. Fick and U.S. Ambassador Bridget Brink led the U.S. delegation, while Deputy Foreign Minister Anton Demokhin led Ukraine’s team, which included top officials from the National Security and Defense Council, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, and other key government agencies.

The dialogue underscored the continuing U.S.-Ukraine partnership in cybersecurity, aiming to strengthen Ukraine’s cyber defenses and promote stability in the region.
