Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles Celebrates 75th Anniversary of PRC at National Day Reception

LAPost/Universal City, CA (September 19, 2023) — The Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles hosted a grand reception on Tuesday evening at the Hilton Universal City Hotel, marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). The event commemorating National Day, which officially falls on October 1st, drew nearly 500 guests, including prominent officials, community leaders, and representatives from various sectors.

California State Assembly member Mike Fong, Kern County Supervisor Leticia Perez, Whittier City Mayor Joe Vinatieri, and former California Majority Leader Bob Hertzberg were among the distinguished guests of honor. Joining them were principals from Chinese associations, representatives of overseas Chinese students, and senior managers from Chinese enterprises, all coming together to celebrate the milestone. The atmosphere was both grand and festive, as attendees extended their best wishes for the continued prosperity of the Chinese people and the enduring friendship between China and the United States.

In his welcome speech, Chinese Consul General Guo Shaochun emphasized China’s remarkable progress over the past 75 years, achieved through hard work and perseverance. Reflecting on the 45th anniversary of China-U.S. diplomatic relations, Guo acknowledged the challenges the relationship has faced but highlighted the importance of maintaining stability and cooperation between the two nations.

“Over the past 45 years, the China-U.S. relationship has faced ups and downs, yet it continues to move forward. As the world’s two largest economies, the relationship between China and the United States has become one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world. Whether China and the U.S. choose cooperation or confrontation affects not only the well-being of our two peoples but also the future of humanity,” Consul General Guo stated.

Guo reiterated China’s commitment to fostering a stable, healthy, and sustainable China-U.S. relationship, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation. He also expressed his appreciation for the contributions of Chinese Americans in the region, recognizing their efforts in promoting friendly relations between the two nations.

“You have actively supported the development of China and your hometowns, while also participating in and contributing to the China-U.S. friendship. Your efforts give me and the Consulate great confidence in the future of our bilateral relations, especially at the grassroots level,” Guo said, encouraging the Chinese community to continue playing a positive role in promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.

Vice Consul General Guo Zhiqiang presided over the event, which featured performances and appearances from notable figures in the film industry, including Woody Mu, Binying Qi, Anna Chi, Andy Cheng, Jing Li, Meng Yao, Jack Tu, Yang Yang, Tianying Peng, Tanxuan Shi, Yue Dong, and magician David Shao, among others.
